Good morning, everyone! I am Cynthia, a psychologist from Salvador, Brazil. About two years ago I began studying Mindfulness. So I decided to go to Berkerley to learn how I could introduce this practice for kids. I attended the SIE (Summer Institute for Educators) in June, 2017, at GGSC-Greater Good Science Center. My experience there was amazing and now I am using Mindfulness to lead a SEL program (Social emotional learning) in the school that I work. We have very good results with the kids!
I’m looking foward to learn more!

Hi – I’m a 68-year-old grandmother in Ontario, Canada who is the primary caregiver of my 8-year-old granddaughter who is struggling to cope with attachment trauma. I was introduced to mindfulness based stress reduction (MBSR) two years ago to help deal with family stresses and chronic back pain from congenital spinal malformation. I strongly believe that mindfulness can help in all aspects of our lives. I “live” mindfully, but know that a formal practice is necessary to fully experience all the benefits it offers. I’ve been pleased to see that the Child and Youth worker in our school actively works with mindfulness and my granddaughter’s 3rd grade teach is now incorporating it into her classroom’s curriculum. I want to strengthen my personal mindfulness and encourage my granddaughter to use it also. I am so pleased to see individuals from so many different countries. If everyone embraced mindfulness in their lives our entire world would be a much better place for all of us. Thank you for the opportunity to be involved in this summit.

I am currently attending school to obtain a degree in psychology. The reason for this is because I had a terrible upbringing and I would like to show and teach our “at risk” children that they too can come out stronger and better even if they are going through a horrible situation. I am a survivor of incest and was physically and verbally abused by my mother. However, what happened to me, does not define me. There are many, many children suffering in silence, such as I did. I want to be the one who gives them hope and guides them in the right direction.
