Hi there, I am a high school instructional technology teacher in Georgia, in the US. We have experienced a spike in the anxiety level of students over the past several years- perhaps in reaction to the standardization of education, increase in testing, labels like ‘below basic’ or ‘basic’, testing pressures, etc. I am curious to discover if growing our own empathy, compassion, and communication skills as teachers will inherently cultivate the same result in our students. It’s my deepest hope that my own children will have adults in their lives (aside from family) who appreciate their wonderfully weird personalities, quirks, and otherness. Can we teach our students how to become those adults?

I am a mum of two boys. My older son has just started working towards his GCSEs and is feeling a little stressed and my youngest soon struggles to focus. I’m looking for some strategies that we could do together that could help.

On a professional level I’m a Breastfeeding Counsellor and am facing increasingly complexed cases where there is an element of stress for mum. I find myself suggesting relaxation techniques more frequently to help families get through challenging times. I wonder if in some instances some mindfulness techniques might be helpful.
